Connect. Grow. Serve. Reach out.
MissionMission Trips
Summer of 2010 brings two opportunities for going on mission trips! First, the youth will travel to Downeast Maine and participate in Neighbors Helping Neighbors. Through the week, the young people will head out into the greater Machias area and scrape, paint, do simple carpentry and other important tasks to assist folks living in the county of New England with this highest poverty rate. Contact Bryan Pretzer for details.
Then two weeks later the adult team will travel to the same area to follow up. This has been a transforming time in the life of all who participate. For details on the youth trip, contact Joanne McNally.
Nicaragua
We also had a team recently return from Nicaragua, and are already beginning to make plans for a return trip in June or July of 2011. You can check out some of the pictures of the trip HERE. If you are interested in learning more, give us a call or send an email.
Good Friday Walk - Sharing, Inc. - Many folks in the area, including members of HUMC are active participants in this annual event. Check out this video to find out more about the history of this important ministry and what it supports. Also, meet Kay Doherty, the founder of the event. Contact Nancy Thurson or Melinda Cerny at Harbor for more details.
United Methodist Board of Global Ministries - This Board is a major arm of the United Methodist church and serves people in need in our country and around the world. Our United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is usually one of the first on sight in situations of disaster. Through these ministries our church offers food, shelter, education and a hospital to people in need, provides hope for those in poverty, disasters, abusive situations, and in oppressive places, and shares the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ with the world Scituate Food Pantry - As part of our regular weekly offering we collect canned goods and other non-perishable items to bring to the Scituate Food Pantry, now located the Masonic Temple on Country Way. You can also contribute by leaving items in the large basket in the Freeman-Fuller room (to the right just as you enter from Bruce Hall.)
Scituate Clergy Association - We work with the churches in Scituate to foster an interfaith spirit in our community and to increase our effectiveness in serving the community in which we live and work.
Long Island Shelter - The Long Island Shelter in Boston provides food and lodging for persons experiencing homelessness. HUMC collects items monthly (soap, toothpaste, etc.) to support the work of the shelter. We also make regular trips to serve the shelter directly - answering the call to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the world. HUMC is involved in supporting the ministries of Habitat for Humanity, UNICEF, Agape Inn, and the Heifer Project. If any of these ministries touch your heart, and you would like to become more involved, contact the church at 781-545-0818 or through the contact page on this website. |
